December Daily 2013 (13)

Two more consecutive pages complete. I know, you guys are probably tired of these DD pages, but I'm so close, and I want to get this project finished. The new year is approaching fast so I'm ready to put 2013 to bed! On the 23rd I got to meet a great gal from my message board and on the 24th we made date/nut bread for holiday baking and opened presents with my aunt and cousin because they had to be with the other side of their family on the actual day. I decided to cram in the paper bags and tags because I forgot to use them and I want to try to use as much of the Scraptastic kit as I can.

December Daily 2013 (12)

Now that the holiday is over I'm catching up with my December Daily pretty quickly. It seems to go faster when I have photos on hand. I did the page on the left while we were away, but it took a while because I was a bit at a loss. This page commemorates us leaving for NorCal to see my parents and then celebrating Mom's birthday the day we arrived. We drive through the night to avoid traffic.

December Daily 2013 (11)

Using up my 4x6 cards from the kit. I have cards from our trip to see Frozen and the little jingle bells I put on Sirius' Service Dog coat to make him more festive. Then the page about trying to get in the spirit of the holiday by watching my collection of holiday movies. Just simple layouts because there's not a whole ton to document.

Season's Greetings Santa

Since my family is so small I'm able to make a few "special" cards just for them. This one is for my brother in law, that's why I kept it simple and not decorative. He's just a nice, stuck little santa. I went a little drop shadow crazy though... oops!

Finally get to see a spread how it actually looks together. For the digi I tried to colour her like Tauriel from The Hobbit. Worked out okay. Then we had a friend visit us so I included that in my pages. I was able to use one of the envelopes to store the score card from the mini golf we played.

Midnight Mischief

I like these little kitties, they're so cute. For some reason the digis just come out terribly, I mean, look at the lines on the glass! They're just crap. Not good files from the company at all. But I just don't like buying rubber stamps if I can help it. Though, yeah, it'd be nice if this company provided well-drawn digis without me having to contact them *every time*. I didn't bother this time because obviously they're not that fussed about providing low-quality images and I don't see why I should have to hound them. ANYWAY, I thought the sentiment went perfect with little Midnight trying to steal from Santa's cup of milk and cookies.

December Daily 2013 (9)

I was dragging my feet on showing you Day Four because I wanted to show it coloured. When I started to colour it though I found I really don't want to colour it! So I'm just leaving it like this! I'll colour it at my parents' house for the holiday. I also included pictures of the boys and I made a little shaker type pocket with the confetti stars and a little transparency from the kit that says "love" on it.

December Daily 2013 (8)

This two page spread is dedicated to the day we spent in Disneyland on the 18th. It's kind of important so I figured I'd give it more space. Pretty emotional layout, but yeah. I was raised with Disney as a big part of my life, almost as some are raised with religion as a big part of their lives, so Disneyland is one of the most special places to me.

I keep thinking I should show you these things in order, but that's not really how I'm making them, so this weirdness is kinda fitting, you know? I work on it when I get a chance to and it's kinda nice to flit from day to day; those that we have done things during, and those we have not.

Spirited Monster

I love monsters, and any time I can combine monsters with other holidays, I'm there. I saw this little guy in my large Doodle Dragon folder and had to give him some colour for a friend of ours. I gave him a little texture with some 99% alcohol and a cloth. I might have gone drop shadow crazy, but I like it.

December Daily 2013 (7)

Just a few kind of "filler" pages. I have been questioning friends and family about holiday themed things, like the page on the right is about their favourite movies. I printed it a bit too big, but I only had the one sheet of paper so I had to just go with it. The page on the left is about the prevalence of holiday cookies and how that's not been too big here.

Look, I used letter stickers! That's pretty big for me, lol. I also was able to write about a geeky tradition of ours: Tolkien movies. Our first Christmas together was punctuated with the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings and now with The Hobbit coming on we get to experience that anticipation again. I also documented my card making which was a LOT more than years previous for my message board friends.

December Daily 2013 (5)

So.... Yeah, I'm starting to run out of ideas for this project. It's kinda crappy, because so far I'm only on day 11 and I've technically skipped 9/10 in the book. We just don't seem to do enough! It's also super hard for me working in these page protectors too. I thought it would be a fun challenge, but without the benefit of a 4x6 space *all* the time it's difficult for me to fill those pages like the one on the left. And those are the lion's share of the album's pages. Oh well, I'll try to keep on truckin'!

December Daily 2013 (4)

This time I actually did them in order. Chronicling some menu planning with myself and my mom and some Xmas treats. This was a bit of a dramatic creation as while I was heating the UTEE my heat tool kind of exploded on me. It made a very loud noise which scared the crap out of me and so I turned it off and set it down. Then I noticed it was smoking like crazy so I had to quickly take it outside and bury it in snow so it didn't set the house on fire. I tried to air out the house by opening a window even though it was 11* outside but there was a ton of smoke outside too, so I just kind of had to suffer... for hours. It sucked. So instead of three  gumdrops little Gingy only has two because I couldn't finish melting the embossing powder. Ah well.

December Daily 2013 (3)

As you can see, with Day 2 and 5 in this picture, I'm catching up, but still out of order. Starting with the left hand page, I was still in the "introductory mode" and I kind of wanted to do something more existential as far as the feeling of this album went. I also made my own insert with the digi stamps for this day. I cut apart a generic page protector, but was unable to sew it because I can't find the power cord for my sewing machine. So I used washi to close it instead. I combined these two digi stamps from Simply B and Tiddly Inks because they're essentially the exact same stamp. Then I used the little bird on the cookie plate from another stamp to avoid throwing it away. I just thought it was funny the two companies did the exact same thing, except the Simply B one didn't have writing on the list, so that looks a little strange.

For Day 5 I included text from an mass email I sent out at the beginning of the month (I blurred out full names and email addresses for privacy). I'm going to include other lists of my own favourites and hopefully my friends will continue to answer the same questions. I think it's a nice thing to include and in a few cases I had no idea what the responses would be, they were pleasantly surprising (Mike's even made me a bit teary eyed). Trying to embellish the bottom of the page I performed a bit of surgery on a Charlie Brown sticker set I had in my stash.

I hope you like these pages, and if you want to see them bigger, just right click and "view image". It gets pretty big that way. ;)

Spent the day working on my DD again. I had made the picture a few days ago. Took the photo off the internet and put the John Lennon lyrics on it. Stash Check...

So, out of curiosity, I combed through my things and lo and behold look at what I found! I thought I had no stash to speak of and yet here are three stacks of 6x6 holiday papers and 15-20 sheets of winter and/or holiday papers! Add in stickers and I not only have enough stuff to be able to make themed cards, I might even be able to add to my Scraptastic Stocking Stuffer kit. That's my organised kit that blue box. I really must get focused with this holiday crafting. It only lasts a month and I have SO MANY digi stamps and now I know I have a lot of paper to use up too. YIKES!!!!

(sorry I don't have a project for you today, I had some serious desk/computer shake up going on here!)

December Daily 2013

This year I'm attempting a December Daily. You may know that I have kind of an issue with Christmas for the last few years, and this year I'm attempting to change that... if I can. I don't have much stash at all, since I don't do much with the holiday, and I wanted to make this project as easy on myself as I could so I decided to get the Stocking Stuffer Kit from Scraptastic. It even comes with a free class on their message board which is fun. I know it's expensive, and I'm not pretending it's not. But without any stash (aside from a few stickers I found, and digital stamps) and it including not only an album but items I'd not purchase on my own, I thought it'd be a simple way to do this project. The least amount of fuss, the more likely it is for me to continue.

You can probably tell that with only the title page and "day three" done I'm not doing this fancy, or in order. With just myself, Mike, and the fur kids we don't tend to do a lot of activities or anything. We visit family very close to the actual day, but that's about it. I'm going to try to mix it up, to incorporate this year, as well as memories, and also to incorporate digital stamps or internet images when I don't have pictures. I'm also kind of struggling with the pockets. It's a bit strange to be locked into random sizes, or to the size that I used the previous day. It's a learning process, but I'm really just trying to capture that "magic" everyone talks about.

Today I'm celebrating the birthday of a friend of mine, Lizzie from Oh Snap Lizzie. We met while we were MiC girls together and she's super awesome. Snow Girl

If you know me, you probably know that I have, shall we say "issues" with the winter holiday, but living here in the SoCal mountains we get snow here. Whether you want it or not, whether you're in the mood or not, winter *comes* and it doesn't let you forget it. It snowed in October for us, but that's too early for me. The snow on November 22nd, finally, said "okay, you can think winter is here now" to me. With that feeling, I broke out some of my snow stamps and got started on "making the season".

Bu'Fly Friend

I made this card at the same time as another one, and put this image on a different base. It didn't look right. So I switched the images. Unfortunately I had adhered the Prima butterfly with Glossy Accents so I wasn't able to remove it. If I could have I would have made the fairy waving at the Prima butterfly. As it is, they're both flying off together and waving at their friend, whomever it is the card is for.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Hello Pink Princess

I was timing myself while I did this one. An hour from start to finish. Probably why it looks so rushed, but yeah. I'm kinda mad that I didn't use the prop paper instead of the ombre pink on the card, but I can't rip the whole thing apart so, yeah. Project Life 2013: Week 44

The week was actually pretty busy, but I kept it simple with a lot of journalling. I don't tend to take a lot of photos of our daily life anymore, which is fine, but I do like to include small things in my PL. I went with an "artsy", doodling style for this week.

Project Life 2013: Week 43

This week we didn't do much, so I didn't have a whole lot to document. In fact, all the photos are from that weekend. But I think it's still important to continue on with the project as some of it might be valuable in a few years.

Never Stop Exploring

I love dragons. Having a little fun, I created a fire dragon. Usually I'd define his scales more, but I wanted them to blend a bit to create a cohesive look. I laid down YR65 first and then built from there instead of just going dark-to-light on the whole thing. I based the girl's colouring off of Astrid from How to Train Your Dragon.

Yarr Birthday

Though I'm loath to buy new rubber stamps, I found that this line is not available in digital so I finally broke down during a sale at Marker Pop. Some of the images with this gal are just too cute to resist. I coloured her up at the retreat, even though some of it is dodgy because I was shaking *really* badly. I think she came out okay though. Originally I was going to just put a shadow around her and have her on a white rectangle, but I think she looks better cut out. I had the sentiment picked out before I picked out the papers.

Project Life 2013: Week 41

For this week I managed to get some index cards in the mail, which is good because I didn't have any more lined paper in my stash, lol! I *did* mess this one up though, cos I tried to cut the back of the WRMK pocket protector so I could use both sides and it kinda ruined the structural integrity of the protector. I'll not be doing that again.

Project Life 2013: Week 40

I decided to try something different for this week. I take so long to do a regular PL layout I was wondering if I finally broke down and used the pocket pages if that would help. I cut up some paper and added my usual Amy Tan Sketchbook and embellishments. I still don't like the pocket page look, but it was, indeed, a lot faster to complete.

Project Life 2013: Week 42

This week I went a little arty with it. I don't know why, it was just something to do. I dont' have any mists, but I used my Copic airbrush compressor to  do the same effect. I like this whole PL thing because you can try different techniques and use random little bits every week and yet it all comes together in the end.

My Old Man

Fairness being my middle name, I made sure to make nice pages of all my fur kids. I really like how this one came out. It was fun to be able to use so many enamel dots, hehe. YAY for dots!

TGF Guest DT: You and Me are Berry Sweet

I'm very happy today to be guesting for The Greeting Farm with a project. They're releasing new cutting files for digital cutters and when Marie asked for volunteers to try them out a few months ago I signed right up. I got cute little Berry Sweet Anya. I had so much fun paper piecing her and I even used Copic paper for her skin so I could colour her as I'm used to. I was really happy with this card too, the way it came together, and the final product. I have to admit, I'm not really up for Valentine's crafting yet at all, so I went more for a general friendship card. I hope you like my project!

Hello Snow White

Snow here is part of a set of four that I bought just before I went to the retreat. I tried to do this blended hair thing I keep seeing the MiC gals do on the recent images. It's... well, it's basically BS. You BS some lines and then follow them, kind of like you do when making pleats. I need more practise, but it was an interesting change, especially for a gal whose hair is kind of a blob that's hard to do in my usual style.

Quality Cute

I was able to colour a few images in my "free" time during the retreat, and now that I'm home I'm getting them onto cards just for cuteness. For some reason I've been colouring skin a bit darker, but hey, she still looks pretty good. I really like her hair combo.

Copic Boot Camp 2013 with Jenn Dove

This weekend I went to my second Copic Boot Camp in Chandler, AZ, put on my Jennifer Dove. I had a fabulous time! I went to her first retreat in 2011 with my BFF Katie, and wanted to go again, but Katie couldn't come this time. Jenn was a sweetheart and she promised Mike (and me) that she'd take care of me and, of course, I had Sirius to watch after me too. Since Mike had Viggo, and the hotel doesn't allow pets, he continued on to Tucson to spend time with his little brother.

The hotel is super nice. The retreat was in the same place in 2011 so I knew it was nice. Jenn made sure that I had a room next to her, so she could make sure I was okay. First I started off with a handicap room across from her, but after I got back to the room after the first night my room REEKED of pot smoke. I called down and they moved me to another room; the hotel gals smelled it when they delivered the keys. I ended up with an elite room, which was pretty cool. I even had a couch and a desk, which I might have used if I were able to do more than sleep and shower. It was pretty nice to have a room all to myself for a few days, and I got to have the room absolutely frigid. It's nice to have air conditioning. I left Sirius' plastic bone in the hotel room on accident though. :(
This is my spot. Jenn made sure I was right up front so I'd be near her and by a door so it'd be easy to take Sirius out to potty. We had a little worry that people might be allergic, but the one gal was able to move and the other was cool and just stayed across from us. As a friend of mine commented that colouring must be nice because it's pretty easy to keep neat. I still spend the weekend cleaning off my area obsessively, lol! Sirius was pretty good, spent his time sleeping under the desk near my feet like he does at home and wandering to the end of his leash to make friends with everyone. He made a few barks, and Saturday he was pretty growly, but he was still such a good boy to have around.
All the gals were pretty super. The tables being in a U shape this year really helped with Jenn being able to talk to us all and she had a microphone (though it was fussy) so she was easier to hear this time too. It was interesting to see how everyone stored their markers and how they coloured. Since I'd been before, and I colour a lot, some of the stuff was review but it was still an interesting exercise.
We did new stuff too, like the boots we're all holding up (you can see my arm and my place over on the left, but not me). For some reason people were saying they were scared of colouring this image. I mean, it was like a challenge, but it was nice to do something like that. They were all grumbly. ((shrugs)) I don't really get it. I mean, we're there to colour! lol! It's not scary, it's fun!
The only problem I had was I couldn't really breathe for crap. I ended up sucking on my inhaler too much and then shaking like an utter freak. See those red lines? Yeah, they were supposed to be straight. That was me TRYING to draw straight. Just shaking all over the place. That, and on Sunday my tummy hurt so it was super hard to concentrate. And I missed some stuff cos I had to keep leaving. That part totally sucked. Sirius was all over me too, doing his best to comfort me.
Here's a sampling of what we did, including the boots. We got new images for the skin and hair and eyes, which was nice to play with. We also got super cool goodie bags of stamps. There was a little store of adorable images there too, but I stayed strong.

I did my best to combine both books I got from the retreats, and I'll work on the images again to get them complete for future reference. Anyway, I had a lot of fun, and it was SOOOOO good to get away from Big Bear for... well, it's always good to get away from Big Bear for as long as possible. I'm hoping if I start saving now I can make it to next year's retreat. It's nice to get to hang out with people that like doing what you like to do and there was new stuff to learn which is good. You should never stop learning!
