MiC Design Team: No, Really, Don't Blink!

MiC - CuteButDeadly copy
The thing about being a Doctor Who fan is you end up seeing the world differently. First, you're like, "Oh, isn't that a lovely little garden scene". Then you blink, and this happens:
The Weeping Angels are one of the creepiest Doctor Who "monsters" and since this post is about April Fool's and "something amusing" I thought it would be amusing (and sadistic) to scare the crap out of everyone. Yeah, that's how I roll. ((nods)) April Fool's is for pranking! The only way to stop a Weeping Angel from getting you and transporting you back in time is to not blink. They can't move if someone is looking at them. So remember, Don't Blink!
This has been Aeryn, scaring the crap out of Whovians, just for the fun of it. Hehehe

You Are Beautiful Always

You Are Beautiful
Trying to use up my pre-printed images I pulled out Cold Kitty Tia. Her hair and skin had been coloured for MONTHS but that's it. I thought I'd finish her up today. There was a little mishap, my pencil created a black line on her cheek somehow, so I decided instead of throwing away the entire image I'd give her a little imperfection. I also let that direct the sentiment and feel of the card and I think it came out kinda sweet. Using up some fun, girly, Easter themed paper from last year too.

Digital Stamp: Cold Kitty Tia - Some Odd Girl
Cardstock: Bazzil Simply Smooth White and Kraft
Paper: Jillibean Soup "Chicken Soup", WRMK
Coloured Pencils: Faber-Castell Polychromos
Copic Colours: E49/77/37
Prima flowers
Martha Stewart butterfly and branch punch

Spring is Here!

Spring House
Welcome to Spring! Or so I'm told. Here in the SoCal mountains it's been rather cool, but our ski resorts are on their last legs for the season, so I suppose Spring is coming. A celebration is called for such an occasion and the little fairies of Make it Crafty are totally on it! What do you think? Total springtime fun, yeah?

Make it Crafty stamps used: Mushroom HouseBobo Petal Sprite, Fifi, Jojo, Little Baby Fairy, Pipi Petal Sprite, and Daffodil Dell. Coloured with Copics; frame created in PhotoShop CS3.

MiC Mirror Post: Mini Frankenstien

MiC - Frank Feature copy
Hello, all! Aeryn here with an image that is just too adorable to miss. This is Mini Frankenstien! Now, you may or may not know, but I'm a total Halloween freak.  I completely love the holiday, even when it's... well, March. BUT, the reason I come to you with little Frank here is that just because he's a little different doesn't mean he HAS to be used only for Halloween projects. Why, this project is positively... *sweet*. Okay, maybe not, but I think Frank is just adorable and I couldn't resist sharing him with you, or playing with the super fun Halloween chippies that are in the MiC store. The haunted house, the fence, and even the bats are dimensional chipboard, isn't that neat! It makes a perfect addition to my little SMASH book.
MiC - Frank Feature Close copy
And here's a close-up of Frank for you. He's a sad little guy, but you would be too with big bolts in your head! They must be weighing him down so much. I hope you like my project, and you'll give Frank a little love.

Be Awesome - I Can Do That!

SoG - Be Awesome copy
When I'm stressed, I colour, and BOY was I stressed yesterday. I took my headphones, turned up my iPod as loud as it would go without my brain bleeding, opened my box of pre-printed images and just picked whatever struck my fancy. I coloured this and another image and calmed down a bit. Today I made this image into a card. I was VERY frustrated with how terrible this paper is. Paper quality is a HUGE factor, I don't care what anyone says, and I have so many images printed on this stupid paper. I used it almost all last year and I'm sure it hindered my development. Anyway, I have the images already printed, so I have to colour them, but I'll be SO happy when it all is used up and only the Copic paper is left! I had fun using the new Amy Tan paper for this card. I love the bright colours and it was perfect for getting in the Spring mood.

MiC Design Team: Stop the Dancing!

MiC - Walk Like an Egyptian copy
Hello all! Aeryn here. This week's challenge for the team was "Walk Like an Egyptian". Pretty apropos considering our AMAZING Mic and TI collaboration blog hop last Thursday (make sure you check it out). Well, in making my entry I was inspired to make another little scene. Here, the lovely Cleo is just too tuckered out from all that dancing. Walking like an Egyptian is tough! LOL! See, even her handmaiden has to fan her!

I used the Ancient Egyptian City, Egyptian Pottery and the Swirly Chipboard Corners from Make it Crafty.

Project Life 2012: Week 2

20120802225702 copy
Week two of January I included a lot of stamping for this one and tried to embellish with the extra paper scraps that I had from the Fancy Pants line I picked for January this year.

Project Life 2012: Week 6

20130314215155 copy
I purposely picked paper lines that I've been trying to use up when I stamped all these Polaroids so it was interesting to work with Love, Elsie papers again after so long. I mixed in some newer supplies like washi, tags, and Echo Park stickers.

Project Life 2012: Week 7

20130311222302 copy
Finally made it to week seven. Continuing with the Love, Elsie, but not a lot of embellishment on this one. Mixed in a few Echo Park stickers too, cos they're not really card phrases, more PL phrases.

Project Life 2012: Week 8

20130312230600 copy
Had a big weekend this week, so I had to make sure to leave a lot of space for journalling. Embellished with a bit of washi and Echo Park stickers. With all the journalling I didn't want to include too much to distract from the story.

Make it Crafty and Tiddly Inks go to Egypt!

Hello, all! Thank you for visiting my blog! You've reached day TWO and I'm here showcasing the amazing creative endevour of Tiddly Inks and Make it Crafty, transporting you all the way to Egypt! How exciting is that!? Now, there's a fabulous little game going on where you can win a SUPER prize. For all the details please visit the main blog post HERE and you'll also be linked to all my other fellow teamies' blogs so you can visit them too.

Now, when I first saw the images from these two amazing companies, I thought of one thing: Doctor Who. In all fairness, that's pretty much ALL I think about, lol! If you've never visited me, you might not know, but I'm a COMPLETE geek. And, as I was saying, the first thing that hit me was this scene from Doctor Who where the Doctor's wife pretends to be Cleopatra and surprises him when he visits her. It's a cute scene, and the Doctor's wife is totally awesoemsauce, and when I saw the images I just knew I had to do my best to re-create it with digis.
MiC Egyptian copy
Since she didn't have a tent with fancy man servants I figured Cleo needed a nice vista, so I combined the Desert Oasis digi stamp with the Egyptian Pyramids. I added some Egyptian Pottery, a loyal kitty, and finally added Cleo - Good to be Queen in there. to complete the scene. I didn't want to embellish too much, so I added a few simple paper frames and some lovely Make it Crafty chipboards.

I hope you like my, and the rest of the team's projects. We all had a BLAST with this collab and these lovely images.

MiC Mirror Post: Combining Copics and Coloured Pencils Tutorial

MiC Tutorial Final copy
Hello there everyone! This is my first MiC tutorial, so I hope you like it. I've combined the step by step images so that you can clearly see the image progression, I hope that works for you. I've only done one or two other tutorials so I'm really flying by the seat of my pants here. Anyway, this tutorial, as the title says, is about combining coloured pencils with your Copics. Maybe you don't have the full set of Copics to give you that large range or colours. Or you have a set of slightly unloved pencils you'd love to get more use out of. Well, combining markers and pencils is a real great way to utilize both of those tools. You can add a lot of depth to your marker coloured images with the addition of pencils.

Next you want to move on to the hair. You COULD do the hair first, it *is* my favourite part... and if it's difficult for you perhaps starting with the hair will mean being able to practise without spending all that time on your skin techniques. But, for this image, I did the hair second. ;)

Well, that's it! I hope you liked my tutorial and found it useful! All of these photos are available at www.aerynkelly.com under the "tutorial" tab as well as my other tutorials I have done. And remember, even if you don't have Copics, give this technique a try. It will work with ANY brand markers and ANY brand pencils you may have; all you need is imagination. I also encourage you to pin these images and spread the love!

Project Life 2013: At the Movies

Got a little bit of personal time today and made this "at the movies" page for my Project Life. I do one every year, so it's hard to come up with something new! Anyway, only four movies so far, since we were gone for a month, but we'll catch up.

You're Special in Red

MiC - You're Special copy
Hello, all! I coloured this image while I was away on vacation (while the family was watching Ted... I'm not allowed to watch with anyone anymore cos I say the lines, lol!) and I finally got her put onto a card with the help of a paper pad sent to my in my LLLC GDT package. I like that they send you physical stuff for guest DTing, that's pretty cool. Especially when it's paper. Can always use more paper! Oh, and I wanted to mention, this gal is part of a set of images that's on discount as well, you can find it here: 60s Girlfriends Collection

Warm Wind Thoughts

Lola - Warm Thoughts copy
I was in a Fall mood, I don't know why. But this image seemed to suit that, as did the papers I hadn't gotten to use yet. It was a fun little diversion, though I think the image was printed much too small for me. I usually prefer bigger than standard rubber size!

MiC Mirror Post: Mer-Friends

MiC Light Colours copy
Hello, everyone! Aeryn here. Today I come with what turned out to be a HUGE challenge for me. And it was my idea! I thought the challenge of using only light colours (0000 - 01 in Copics) would be interesting. Little did I know how hard it would be! I am used to using such vibrant and dark colours that I had a really hard time keeping to the lightest of markers. I do hope you like how it came out though. I created this in my "artistic" SMASH book; reserved for fun, embellished coloured images. It makes for a nice gallery to look through, hehe.

A Little Show-Off From Alicia's Little Shop

I was surprised on Thursday to wake up to an email from the lovely Alicia Alva of Alicia's Little Shop requesting that I make a few cards for her to use on her blog. Of course I said "sure!" I made my way to her shop and picked out two of these little cuties to join the others I bought myself. Her images are so fun to work with! Here are the cards I made late last year: number one and two.
Kitty - Alicia Alva copy
This is Alicia and her Little Cat. I loved it the moment I saw it. She looks so cute in her little sweater, cuddling that sweet little kitty. I wanted to keep the card very bright and fun to reflect the fun they are having with each other.

The second is Alice in Wonderland. She's done by one of my favourite artists, so I jumped at the chance to colour her. I have seen the lovely versions of this coloured by, actually, some of my Make it Crafty teamies, so I wanted to try something a bit different on her. Non-traditional colours, and all. Plus, it's been so long since Halloween I'm jonesing! lol!
